Corrosion Protection Of Petroleum Pipelines By Blended Of Polyethyleneglycol-polydimethylsiloxane With Inorganic Additives

Ossama M. Abo-Elenien

The corrosion protection of petroleum pipelines are carried out by blended of synthetic polyethyleneglycol-polydimethylsiloxane (PEG-PDMS) with inorganic filler/pigments additives. The formula E0-E12 are formed by blending of PEG-PDMS with Zn, TiO2, Al2O3 and silica in different ratios. The toluene-di-isocyanate(TDI) is used as curing agent at 5,10,15 and 20 parts. The carbon steel alloy specimens were provided from unused petroleum pipelines grad 15. The surface of specimens was prepared by polished with different grades of emery papers. The surface of each specimens was painted by each formula. The physical, mechanical and chemical properties of the formed wet and dry films were examined. The effect of organic solvents and agrisves media on the formed films were recorded. The conditions of the most propers films have been optimized. The formed films from E1–E12 are not affected by 10% sulforic acid at a period time 50 days for dry film thichness(DFT) 55 μm. Also , the formed films at DFT 55, 100, 150 and 200 μm are not affected by sacrificial sea water 3.5%NaCl at a period time 48, 120,168 and 216 days respectively.
