Kinetics Of Ruthenium (III) Catalysed Oxidation Of Amino Acids By Vanadium (V) In Aqueous Perchloric Acid

The ruthenium (III) catalysed oxidation of glycine, sarcosine and betaine by vanadium (V) in perchloric acid medium has been studied spectrophotometrically. The oxidation of amino acids becomes amiable in the study only in the presence of catalyst and lower concentration H+ ions (0.01- 0.1 mol dm-3). A suitable mechanism consistent with the experimental results has been proposed. The ratio of oxidation for the amino acid was in the order betaine > sarcosine> glycine.
