Preparation of a magnetic aerogel from ferrite-silica nanocomposite

Anewkind ofmagnetic aerogelwas prepared fromamixture of ferrite nanoparticles and silica aerogel. The ferrite (Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4) nanoparticles were prepared by a coprecipitationmethod and added to tetramethylorthosilicate (TMOS)/ethanol solution in the range of 0 to 20mol%.Themixed ferrite-silicawet gelwas dried in the supercritical carbon dioxide fluid. The obtained ferrite-silica aerogel nanocompositewas a ultra-superlight and high-porousmaterial,where the magnetic propertyof ferritewas held in the aerogel.
