Pulverized Palmkernel shell (PKS) based non-asbestos frictionmaterial for brake liningswasproduced containing fibrous reinforcing constituents, friction imparting and controlling additives, elastomeric additives, fire retarding components and a thermosetting resin. The results showed that onset degradation temperature of the Palmkernel shell based friction liningmaterialwas obtained at 53.84°C with final degradation temperature of 634.87°C and percentage weight loss of 86%. For theOriginalEquipmentManufacturer (OEM) liningmaterial in themarket;itwas observed that the onset degradation temperature of 54.28°C with final degradation temperature of 583.57°C and percentageweight loss of 42.37%was also obtained. The PKS based friction linings were found to have a high wear rate of 0.24ìmcompared toOEMliningmaterial with a wear rate value of 0.16ìm. The composite formed fromthe pulverized PKSmaterials as friction liningmaterials showgood thermal stabilitywhencomparedwith those obtained fromtheOEM.
